Pallet Racking Inspection for WorkSafeBCServices
Meet WorkSafeBC’s Safety Regulations
On January 1st, 2018, WorkSafeBC imposed new regulations regarding the safety of your storage racks. In general, the new subsection in the “Occupational Health and Safety Requirements” says that employers should ensure that their storage racks are appropriate for their intended purpose. Hi-Cube can help ensure regulatory compliance with our pallet rack inspection service.
We start with the overall pallet racking inspection, identifying what is needed for compliance. We’ll then provide you with a complete report that includes compliance recommendations with the WorkSafeBC pallet rack regulations. From there, if needed, we supply and install any type of pallet racking or shelving to ensure the safety of your warehouse. Fill out the Request More Information form to get started.
Ensuring the safety and code compliance of your pallet racking is a top priority. Hi-Cube Storage has a qualified rack inspector in-house to inspect your pallet racking systems. We can assist you with setting up new racking, annual pallet racking inspections, and when relocating or reconfiguring your existing pallet racks to ensure code compliance and overall warehouse safety.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often do inspections happen?
Canadian safety standards recommend monthly routine visual inspections by trained in-house staff and a more comprehensive audit by a qualified rack inspector annually.
Are inspections legally required?
Yes. WorkSafeBC mandates that employers maintain pallet racking systems in safe working conditions. Failure to comply can result in hefty penalties or facility shutdowns.
Can I perform the inspection myself?
You can, and should, perform a regular visual check of your pallet racking, but formal pallet racking inspections should be scheduled annually with a qualified professional.
What should I look for in a visual inspection?
During a visual inspection, check for permanent damage like dents, twists, or bends. Evaluate the components for visible bowing or overload and check for missing items like lock pins and safety bars/wire decks. Ensure all racks are anchored to the floor securely and that anchor bolts are not rusted, loose, or pulled out of the concrete. Finally, check for plumbness and alignment.
Can I bend or hammer a damaged rack back into shape?
Not typically. Questionable repairs weaken the structural steel. Repairs must be completed with original manufacturer replacement parts or engineered repair kits.
When is a rack considered out of service?
This condition is very specific to the type of product stored and the location of the warehouse. Typically, any permanently deformed pallet rack components are strong candidates for being removed from service.
