At Hi-Cube, we offer everything from heavy-duty steel shelving, easy-to-install boltless shelving to more custom shelving installations. With over 40 years of experience, we’ll help you choose the right system, whether new or used warehouse shelving, for long-term flexibility and ROI.
What’s the Difference Between Shelving and Racking?
Shelving systems are ideal for light to medium-weight items accessed by hand, offering adjustability and low-cost flexibility. Racking systems are more permanent, designed for heavy, palletized inventory accessed by forklifts. If you need modular, height-level organization for parts, tools, or goods, shelving is likely your best choice.

Key Factors When Choosing Industrial Shelving:
- Load Capacity – Ensure your system can support the weight and shape of your items.
- Space & Layout – Consider ceiling height, aisle width, and room function. Choose from fixed or mobile shelving to fit your space.
- Scalability & Adaptability – Think long-term and opt for adjustable shelves, bins, and modular configurations that can grow with your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
At Hi-Cube, we supply a variety of industrial shelving to cover your needs. Some of the common types include:
- Steel shelving (open or closed): Durable and robust, often used for smaller items or parts.
- Boltless/rivet shelving: Easy to assemble without bolts or nuts, accessible from all sides, and highly adjustable.
- Cantilever shelving: Features open sides and adjustable arms. Available in fixed or mobile configurations.
- Drawer/bin shelving: Incorporates drawers within shelving units to maximize storage density for multiple small parts or tools.
- Mezzanine/multi-tier shelving: Multi-level shelving accessed by stairs, optimizing vertical space in facilities with high ceilings. This type of shelving requires permits.
Assembling metal boltless shelving is easy and requires minimal tools, like a rubber mallet (no bolts or screws required). Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started. For a more detailed breakdown, click here to view the full E-Z-Rect installation instructions.
Step 1: Lay the post flat on the ground with the connector slots facing inward and the seam facing outward. Position the Post Connectors where needed, usually spaced evenly, with one at the top and one at the bottom. Tap them gently with a rubber mallet to secure.
Step 2: Insert the Frame Connectors into the Post Connectors at your desired shelf heights. Tap gently with a rubber mallet to lock them in place.
Step 3: Once the frame is assembled, stand it upright and place the shelf panels onto the Frame Connectors. Ensure the unit is level and stable before loading.
Proper shelf labeling boosts warehouse efficiency, minimizes errors, and supports scalable operations. Here’s how to do it effectively:
Step 1: Develop a Logical Labeling System – Use unique identifiers to indicate aisle, rack, and shelf position. Keep the system intuitive so staff can easily locate items.
Step 2: Integrate with WMS – Sync your labeling system with your warehouse management systems (WMS) for accurate inventory tracking and streamline picking. Consider using barcodes or QR codes for WMS, enabling quick scanning and real-time tracking.
Step 3: Choose the Right Label Type and Placement – Select durable, easy-to-read labels suitable for your environment (e.g., weather-resistant for outdoor areas, freezer-grade for cold storage). Place labels at eye level or in highly visible locations, especially for multi-level shelving.
Step 4: Test In One Area and Adjust – Pilot the labeling system in one area before full rollout. Adjust your system for visibility, scanning accuracy, and workflow efficiency.
